Autofellatio

Autofellatio refers to the act of a male stimulating his own penis orally. This requires an unusual degree of spinal flexibility, body proportions, or both, making it physically achievable for only a very small percentage of men. For most, it remains a fantasy rather than a practiced activity.

From a physiological standpoint, autofellatio requires extreme forward spinal flexion that most human bodies are not designed to achieve. The length of the torso relative to the penis, spinal flexibility, and body composition all play roles in determining whether the act is physically possible. Some individuals achieve it through dedicated stretching and flexibility training, while others may have naturally greater spinal mobility.

Psychologically, interest in autofellatio falls within the spectrum of autoerotic behavior. The desire represents a form of sexual self-sufficiency and may be motivated by curiosity, the appeal of a novel sensation, or the fantasy of combining the roles of giver and receiver in oral sex. Research suggests that a significant percentage of males have at least attempted autofellatio at some point.

From a health and safety perspective, the primary risk of autofellatio is physical injury from overextending the spine. Individuals who attempt it should be cautious about forcing positions that cause pain, particularly in the neck and lower back, as spinal injuries can be serious and permanent.

Clinically, interest in or practice of autofellatio is not considered pathological. It is classified as a form of masturbation and falls within the normal range of autoerotic behavior. Alfred Kinsey noted in his research that it was more common than generally assumed, though still practiced by a small minority.

Historical references to autofellatio appear across cultures. In ancient Egyptian mythology, the god Atum was depicted creating the gods Shu and Tefnut through an act interpreted by some scholars as autofellatio, representing a creation myth involving self-fertilization. Ancient Egyptian art from the Book of the Dead contains imagery that has been interpreted as depicting this act in a mythological context.

Alfred Kinsey's landmark studies on human sexuality in the 1940s and 1950s provided some of the first systematic data on autofellatio, noting that while many males had attempted it, only a small percentage were successful. The topic has since been discussed in various sexological and anatomical studies, primarily in the context of human flexibility and autoerotic behavior. Contemporary understanding treats it as a form of masturbation rather than a paraphilia per se.
